My baby is now 6 months old and I have been trying to start him on cereal for the past week. Everytime the spoon gets near his mouth he seals his lips and turns his head. I have tried feeding him cereal about 10 times this week and no luck. Any suggestions? (I don't want to add baby fruit yet because ped says I should start veggies first)
THank you,
Kelly

I'd just keep trying. What kind of cereal are you trying? If you're trying Rice, perhaps try Oatmeal or Barley. Maybe those would work. I don't know what else you could do. Maybe mix a little veggies in there and see if that would work? Good luck!

My baby has done the same thing....he doesn't like it. Try some fruit and see if the sweet taste works and then put the cereal in with the fruit and formula so it is smooth enough.
My little guy likes pears so he does swallow that. I still have to work on this too.

Laney would never eat Oatmeal...I always had to give her Barley. I also would mix a tiny bit of fruit or veggie on the edge of the spoon with it just to trick her enough into eating it. But honestly, she was on and off cereal by the time she was about 7 months old because we were never real successful with it. Maybe just try giving it a break for a day or two and then reintroducing it?

I agree. I also want to add that since he is six months already, you can move on to veggies and fruits. We didn't give any solids until 6 months and my doctor said we could just go to veggies. I skipped cereal altogether early on and just went to veggies at 6 months. After he was used to eating the fruits and veggies, I started giving him the cereal in the jars for breakfast and he liked it. He never would eat the dry stuff that you mix.

THanks everyone! I'll be more patient. I'm going to try the oatmeal and if that doesn't work, I'll try mixing veggies.

I'm not much help, Ashton LOVES his cereal lol but I always mix in fruit with his. If I dont I find he's not thrilled with it, and wont eat it all. He also likes it kinda thick.
